Police in Trichardt are investigating cases of murder and business burglary following an incident at Duncron’s business premises, just outside Trichardt, at about 01:10 this morning (November 8).
Sergeant Valencia Mashaba, communications officer for Trichardt SAPS, said in a statement this afternoon that officers responding to the shooting found a heavily wounded 37-year-old man in a room he shared with his wife. He had been shot several times.
“The couple apparently heard a noise and the alarm was activated. The victim went out to investigate and, moments later, ran back to the room, followed by an armed man wearing a balaclava,” said Mashaba.
“The suspect shot the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene with the other suspects, who were also inside the premises.”
Mashaba said the accomplices were not in the room when the victim was shot.
“The victim was rushed to a medical facility, where he was unfortunately declared dead on arrival,” said Mashaba.
She said preliminary investigations established that five suspects wearing balaclavas gained access to the premises by breaking through three cement slabs in the side wall. The alarm was activated, prompting the victim to leave the room to investigate.
The suspects fled the scene without stealing anything. The motive for the burglary is still unknown.
“This is the second incident of this nature in the same week in the area. It cannot be confirmed at this stage whether they are the same suspects. An investigating team has been assigned to investigate the incident,” concluded Mashaba.
Police are urging anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to contact the investigating officer immediately on 082 494 4729 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
