Davidsonville residents meet with Premier’s office

The community will be meeting again with the Premier's office in the next two weeks.

The residents of Davidsonville met with officials from Premier, David Makhura’s office on Wednesday, 5 June, in a bid to resolve the current issues facing the area.

The area was on lockdown for a number of days in May, because of faulty electricity meters which City Power officials took out of the residents’ houses without prior warning, leaving them with no power. The residents were calling on the power utility to fix the problem instead of taking the meters out.

Roads were blocked with burning tyres and rocks, preventing access to the area; however, the protest has been put on hold.

Christebell Pienaar, the chairperson of the Davidsonville Community Forum (DCF), said they are very happy with how the meeting with the Premier’s office went.

“At this stage, everything is very promising. The community is happy that things seem likely to start happening in our area – our cries have not fallen on deaf ears,” she said.

She added that they have seven days to send a list of all their problems to the Premier’s office.

“During the meeting, minutes were taken to make sure that we have evidence but they are really willing to help us,” said Pienaar.
