Church, residents and police reclaim area from crime

Cosmo City Churches Forum, the Honeydew police and the community of Cosmo City took to the streets with a prayer walk against crime.

Due to crime being a serious challenge in Cosmo City, a five-pronged strategy by the Cosmo City Churches Forum was established to reclaim the city from crime On 13 July.

Pastor Vuyami Gxagxama of the forum co-ordinated the event.

According to Pastor Gxagxama, residents are fed up with crime, and Cosmo City is considered the “crime capital” of the Honeydew Police Cluster – something the residents do not want the area to be known for.

The prayer walk took place in three segments throughout Cosmo City: the first started at the park at Extension 3 and finished at the Cosmo City police satellite station, the second

segment started at the park at Extension 6 in Seychelles Street and finished at the park in Extension 2 in Lesotho Street, and the third segment started at the park at Extension 5 in Antigua Street and finished at the park in Tennessee Street in Extension 0.

Honeydew police station commander Brigadier Wayne Sirkhot also joined one of the groups and addressed the church leaders at the Cosmo City satellite station after the event.

Sirkhot expressed his gratitude towards the Church Forum for the way they are informing the community about the attention crime in the area received.

He said people could see that authorities are concerned about crime and invited everybody to again participate in such walks.
