A 19-year-old driver fled the scene of an accident last night (4 April) after he had rolled an Audi belonging to an IT company.
The driver and a 21-year-old passenger were travelling on Ontdekkers Road towards Krugersdorp when for reasons still unclear the vehicle rolled just before the Corlett Avenue intersection. When a security company and emergency services arrived the two had already fled. A man gave chase in his car and managed to catch the passenger.
When returned to the scene the passenger told the emergency services he was unscathed and did not need to go to hospital, but when police arrived he said he must be taken to hospital urgently.
A source on the scene said when representatives of the IT company arrived they said the two men did not have permission to use the vehicle. The vehicle’s licence allegedly expired last year and the driver is said not to have a driver’s licence.
Dowry Security and the Sector 8 Police secured the scene while ER24 attended to the passenger.
The accident will be the subject of a police investigation.
