Man shot twice in road-rage incident

Woman hits man with wheel spanner.

A man was shot twice during a road rage incident yesterday (13 June) at about 10.15pm in Van de Linde Road.

According to Frik van Zyl, spokesperson of West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW), the drama started on Ontdekkers Road when a man and woman in a Golf GTI nearly collided with two men who were driving a Mercedes-Benz and a bakkie respectively. (The two men were travelling together.) The Mercedes and the bakkie then gave chase and followed the Golf to the Linde Lane complex where the occupants of the Golf stay.

At the gate of the complex an argument ensued and the woman hit one of the men with a wheel spanner. He then drew a firearm and fired five shots, two of which hit the male driver of the Golf in the leg.

Meanwhile WSRNW patrollers along with a police vehicle were dispatched and found the men in the bakkie and Mercedes on the corner of Corlett Avenue and Van de Linde Road. When they asked the men what happened the shooter made an admission and handed over his weapon.

He was arrested.

The suspect is currently being detained at Roodepoort Police Station. The victim was taken to hospital.
