21-year-old shot dead during armed robbery

A 21-year-old man died early this morning during an attempt to protect his brother and mother from armed robbers.
The incident took place just before 1am on Elsenburg Street in Witpoortjie. The young man was sitting in the living room when a silver VW Polo stopped in front of the house. Three men got out while one waited in the vehicle. They threw a brick through the living room window.
The 21-year-old retaliated by throwing his laptop at them. He then ran to the hallway to lock the security gate so that the robbers could not reach his mother and brother. He managed to lock it but unfortunately he was still on the robbers’ side of the gate.
Two shots were allegedly fired at him and he died a short while later.
