Minnaar said, “Illegal racing on public roads is very dangerous. Also exceeding the permitted speed limit is illegal because when cars crash there’s a great impact which can cause serious damage.”

A driver of a red Toyota Yaris reportedly died on the scene while other occupants from the BMW sustained serious injuries when the accident occurred.

It has been alleged by onlookers that the crashed BMW and an Audi were racing at about 10pm that evening.

Reports further claim that the driver of the BMW lost control and collided with the red Toyota causing it to roll several times.

The driver of the white Audi could not be seen after the crash and was believed to have fled.

Various emergency personnel rushed to the scene including Joburg Metro police to assist.

Minnaar concluded that the accident was now the subject of a police investigation.

“The accident will be investigated by the police to establish who caused the crash and charge the person with culpable homicide.”

Honeydew Police Station is investigating.
