A water leak on the corner of Bushwillow and Anemone Streets in Roodekrans has been the subject of concern for Roodekrans residents over the past two days.
Water from a burst pipe can be seen running down the street in huge amounts. Ward 83 residents have said a big concern for them is the wastage of the water, especially because of the water restrictions.
The first burst was reported on 9 October. Joburg Water attended to the problem and at 4pm the pipe had been repaired, but by 6pm on the same day it had burst again. Joburg Water returned to the site and repaired the pipe again, finishing at about 1am this morning (10 October). Half an hour later, the pipe burst for the third time.
Joburg Water has prioritised this issue and is on site to fix the problem; the technical team is also on site to determine the cause of all the bursts. According to the Ward 83 councillor, Florence Roberts, the aging infrastructure is a large issue so the pipes may need to be replaced.
Councillor Roberts would also like the residents of her ward to be aware that due to the extremity of the situation, more materials are being allocated to fix the issue. If residents see the workers leaving the site, it is to get more materials, and not because they are abandoning the job.
The technical team has said the water supply to the area should be restored this afternoon, at an estimated time of 4pm.
