Donations desperately needed to fund blind boy’s school dream

Brandon's family cannot afford the fees for the special school and are unable to secure a bursary to allow him the opportunity.

The right to a basic education is what every single child in this country deserves, regardless of circumstances.

However, this is not the case for 12-year-old Brandon Sithole, who is sightless.

This youngster from Zandspruit is forced to be at home due to his disability while his peers attend schools. There is a specialised school that caters to his needs, but the stumbling block for his family is the fees.

However, the President of Golden Drifter Football Club and youth activist Proud Shoko saw the need. “I am crowd-funding for a blind child who is currently looking for fees to attend a Johannesburg school for the blind. Brandon is very intelligent. A long sickness at a tender age left him completely blind,” Shoko explained the purpose of the campaign.

He added that Brandon’s family cannot afford the fees for the special school and are unable to secure a bursary to allow him the opportunity.

The tuition fee is R15 000, transport costs R10 000, and food or lunch amounts to R5 000 – totalling R30 000 per month.

“Reaching this target will mean that Brandon will be able to attend school this academic year, and that will make him very happy,” an optimistic Shoko explained.

He added that the funds raised will be paid directly to the relevant institution.
