Residents of Witpoortjie, Grobler Park, Lindhaven, Davidsonville and Princess unwillingly have become accustomed to having no water.
According to the Ward 71 councillor, René Benjamin, over the past five weeks (approximately) the issue of water pipes bursting in the area has become out of hand. The high volume of pipe bursts has meant that areas in the ward are often without water, or have exceedingly low water pressure for days at a time.
René recalled one instance where four pipes burst in different areas of the ward within a span of three days. Each pipe took about two or three days to fix, and some areas of the ward were without water for nine days back to back.
Fed up with the constant water issues, René has sent out a petition to the residents in her ward to sign, hoping to get the attention of Joburg Water and City of Johannesburg. The petition is requesting an investigation into the recurring pipe bursts as well as a report detailing how the issue will be rectified.
If you have been affected by the water outages due to these issues, you can sign the petition at this link.

Joburg Water has been approached for comment, but by the time this article was published there has been no response. An update will be done once a response has been received.
