WATCH: Damaged pumps cause major sewage problems

The biggest concern with the overflowing sewage was that it was running into the drains that link to the vlei.

A sewage stream that caused a repelling stench in Pinehaven, Muldersdrift had been attended to.

Spokesperson for Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM), Adrian Amod confirmed that the problematic issue which caused residents sleepless nights for almost a week had been fixed.

The biggest concern with the overflowing sewage was that it was running into the drains that link to the vlei.

“Upon attending to the reported sewer overflow and during the inspection it was established that two pumps at the pump station were damaged,” he explained the source of the problem.

When asked why MCLM took their time to effect repairs, Amod said, “Once the problem was reported the municipality responded immediately, and as far as repairs are concerned it should be noted that two pumps required replacement, which apart from sourcing parts was not a minor repair. Our technical team carried out the work within reasonable time, which was two days.”
