Roodepoort’s young poet confronts GBV
Although her heart is anchored in poetry, Yolanda is working on her online magazine and running a female-based youth project that aims at premiering a series based on GBV.
The 21-year-old Yolanda Florence Komichi is a young creative who clearly possess special powers of imagination and expression.
The undiscovered poet is a young woman with untapped talents who conveys free and vibrant energy. She resides in Lindhaven in Roodepoort and is an IT student at Damelin College.
Yolanda sees herself as an outstanding creator with a mind of the wise; she is self-taught in many things and applies her mind to everything she does.
Yolanda admitted to the Record that she is not much of a reader, but experiences have surely made her thinking more advanced.
“I have a voice but not the platform to showcase it. I am a gender-based violence (GBV) activist with the motive to help convey the message through my poetry,” said the poetic Yolanda.
She has rounded up a couple of females from all over Johannesburg in her efforts to work on a movie that covers mainly GBV.
“I am not your normal kind of girl with little dreams and weak aspirations; as of now we want to seek sponsorships to help us out, as
well as push forward to produce a cultural-based short film project called Black Swan,” said Yolanda.

Yolanda has been living in Roodepoort for 16 years and admits that she has never attempted to share her talent with the community; however, she has gained the courage to do so by making a difference as far as GBV is concerned.
Gender Based Violence
Allow me to live once again
Without the pain
But peace to obtain
And easy to maintain
Mamma is a user
Daddy is an abuser
This ain’t no rumour
For happy homes are fewer
Love doesn’t reside
To whom shall I confide
Whilst the sun interrupts the skies
With pain in her eyes
In love with deceit and his lies
Her innocence dies
Nobody to hear her cries
Used to be showed by Gucci bags
But now she’s just a punching bag
You pierce the skin on my chest
Violence sinks into my soul
A man so foul
For we know death to the bone
Just pick up the phone
