Possibility of severe thunderstorms predicted for City of Johannesburg

The thunderstorm formations are set to start in the early afternoon and reach their maximum intensity at around 5pm.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) National Forcasting Centre has issued a level 2 impact based warning for the potential of severe thunderstorms over parts of the City of Johannesburg tomorrow, 30 September between 10am and 9pm.

Based on the warning, there is a high risk of minor to severe impact in places over parts of Gauteng.

The thunderstorm formations are set to start in the early afternoon and reach their maximum intensity at around 5pm.

It is further predicted that the storm pockets would be associated with severe lightning, localised flash flooding, reduced driving visibility and/or damaging winds.

The City of Johannesburg Disaster Management Centre is calling on all residents to be observant for changing weather conditions.
