Songwriter spreading his love of music
After 35 years in the banking industry, Frank van Doorene turned his attention to his passion for music.
Throughout the history of modern pop tracks and music charts, the recording artists with the smooth voices have had a concealed weapon. The name of the modern pop songwriter seldom appears in the charts and almost never appears on stage to accept an award.
After 35 years in the banking industry, Frank van Doorene turned his attention to his passion for music. A long time musical contributor to the Discovery Methodist Church, Frank now spends his free time compiling tunes of positivity. An avid lover of poetry, Franks insists that ‘melody is key’ and he always carries a recorder with him for those lightning bolt moments of inspiration.
Born in Rhodesia, Frank attended Florida Primary and Florida Park High School, and uses his professional background to meticulously craft his tracks. “I’ll put down a harmony and revisit it a month later,” he said, paging through his lever arch file of notes and ideas. Frank will list up to 200 potential tracks bimonthly, but will only progress with a handful.

While an able singer himself, Frank is looking for strong male and female vocalists to bring his tracks alive. With strong gospel links, he always keeps the themes and lyrics of his songs positive, saying “A strong message in the song is important”. Not interested in fame or fortune, he is simply hoping to bring joy to others through his special hobby. “It is a passion inside. If I went into entertainment as a career, my children would have starved,” he joked.
Frank’s material is currently available on Soundcloud and N1M.com, or his very own website, Songarise.co.za. A quick listen will reveal the potential of his work and the humility of the artist. “I’m here to help with advice, opportunities and most importantly, song ideas,” he said.
