Bringing healing with new album

Thabang, a husband and father, said his career was not an overnight success as he paid his dues to get to the top.

After facing difficult times due to challenges brought about by Covid-19, Ruimsig’s own gospel artist Thabang Mothapo is back with more soothing Christian-based music.

The Gospel Crown Awards nominee, who managed to keep a positive mindset during the heavy lockdown, has given his fans another taste of his upcoming 14-track album with a single titled Sikwethembile.

This particular track, according to Thabang, is aimed at bringing healing to a broad audience and to show gratitude to God.

This amazing song is among many touching hits in the much-anticipated album called Thank You Lord such as Uthando Lwakho, Sikwethembile, Unami, Walenga, You alone are great.

Reflecting on the entire project, the talented musician explained that if his fans took anything from his new album, it would be to give gratitude, particularly in these trying times. “The Covid-19 pandemic has affected so many people, and my finances have taken a dip as many events and concerts that I was booked for have been cancelled. Despite everything, my focus remains on God, as He keeps all his promises,” Thabang explained.

This offering follows two other albums, Ngidinga Wena released in 2017 and Ngek’Akushiye in 2015.

Thabang, a husband and father, said his career was not an overnight success as he paid his dues to get to the top.

Born in gaMashashane in Limpopo and raised in Springs, Thabang grew up in a family where music was like an extra language. He’d often come home to find his dad and his brother playing the keyboard and guitar.

As he learnt from the best in his family, and music being in the centre of his life at a young age, Thabang became a professional drummer, singer, vocal director and songwriter – he is far from being a stranger to the entertainment industry.

During his come-up he played for some of the country’s most renowned artists such as Simphiwe Dana, Kabomo, Bucie, William Sejake, Xolani Jwaga, Pastor Solly Mahlangu and Lebo Sekgobela, to name a few.

While he navigates the road to financial recovery, Thabang said, “My plan is to maximise on the performances that are coming through now to get back on track”.

He concluded by encouraging aspiring gospel artists or musicians who wish to walk in his shoes one day to keep God at the centre of it all and to maintain a focused spirit.
