WATCH: Three taxi drivers help keep morning traffic moving
Nearly two hours later, the three men were still directing traffic with smiles on their faces and a skip in their step
For motorists, taxi drivers are often considered a nuisance, but this morning, 6 November, three men showed that not all taxi drivers have a disregard for other motorists.
The peak-hour traffic had yet again been put to a standstill due to the traffic lights at the intersection of Corlett Avenue and Ontdekkers Road being off. By 7am, the roads were filled with cars waiting for their turn to go through the intersection, but there was no traffic officer in sight. So at approximately 7.10am, three taxi drivers pulled over their vehicles and decided to help keep the morning traffic moving.

Vincent Thonga, Given Mabasa and Jack Sekgopi made their way to the middle of the intersection and began directing traffic. “We are just thinking of the people who needed to get to work. We know there are people who cannot be late or maybe they have an interview and if they are late they won’t get the job,” said Vincent.
Nearly two hours later, the three men were still directing traffic with smiles on their faces and a skip in their step, despite not getting paid for their actions and missing out on the money they would have made from transporting passengers. “The passengers come first, even if they are not in our taxis,” said Jack.
Small acts like these show that there are still people in the world who would sacrifice of themselves to give to their communities.
