On Thursday, 5 November, the acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner of Police, Major General Patricia Rampota together with the Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Policing, Major General Tommy Mthombeni, Acting Johannesburg District Commissioner, Major General Anna Mateisi, senior police officers, Gauteng Traffic and representatives of the Department of Community Safety visited two major malls in the northern areas to create awareness.
The delegation, which included the Honeydew Police station commander, Brigadier Anesh Maharaj, descended on Clearwater Mall where law-enforcement officers interacted with community members and shop managers to promote visibility and awareness.
From there, they took the Christiaan de Wet Road offramp from Hendrik Potgieter Road and travelled to Northgate Mall where similar proceedings were conducted.
Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan commented on the cause. “This massive crime awareness campaign is complementing the multi-disciplinary Operation O Kae Molao whereby police members are activated at malls to engage with shoppers on general safety, emergency contact numbers and services provided by us,” he said, adding that the aim is to reach the communities of Gauteng one mall at a time.
