Joburg Water opens applications to prospective CLOs

The contract will run for six months

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) and Johannesburg Water (JW) are inviting suitable, Ward 70-based candidates to apply for one of two Community Liaison Officer (CLO) positions on their new project.

JW and CoJ have planned to replace a large portion of water pipes in Fleurhof and are therefore calling on small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to apply for CLO positions on the project. Two CLOs will be appointed because the project will be split into two phases, which will be running concurrently for a six-month period.

These positions are only available to residents of Ward 70 and a proof of residence is mandatory. Applications must be dropped off by no later than 12 midday on 20 November at the Roodepoort Civic Centre, 100 Christiaan de Wet Road, Florida Park.

Successful applicants should meet the following requirements:
• Grade 12 Matric Certificate
• Good English language skills
• Good communication skills and report-writing skills
• Must be currently unemployed
• Must have a good knowledge of Ward 70

The contract will run for six months and all CVs must be submitted with a copy of the applicant’s ID, Matric Certificate, and proof of residence. Ward 70 councillor, Caleb Finn, stated that his office will be verifying whether applicants reside in Ward 70 or not.

Responsibilities of appointed CLO are as follows:
• To provide coordination between the contractor and the community on project-related matters
• Write and submit accurate reports to the contractor and the client, copying in the Region and ward councillor
• Assist in the appointment of general workers or labourers
• Act as the liaison between the community, the contractor and Stakeholder Relations Officer regarding the project
• Responsible for providing a link between the local resources and the contractor, including conflict resolution on project-related matters
• Make reference to database of local resources
• Keep the contractor and the client aware of community affairs and also report on possible dynamics
• Assist the contractor’s supervisory staff in the management of workers
