Reminder: Rape victims invited to exhibit ‘what they were wearing’
The event will be held on 28 November from 10am.
Free World Initiative representative, Tahirah Jegels, is reminding rape survivors to partake in their upcoming project.
This NPO invited rape survivors to come out and exhibit the clothes they wore on the day of their ordeal.
The campaign is called ‘What I was wearing’.
“Victims of rape are often asked ‘what were you wearing’, which triggers the notion that the responsibility is placed solely on the victims to keep themselves safe, instead of looking at the real issue,” Tahirah expressed.
“Free World Initiative calls on survivors to share what they were wearing the day they were raped, to be displayed at the Kalashnikovv Gallery at 70 Juta Street in Braamfontein next month,” she extended the invite.
The event will be held on 28 November from 10am.
