Get active for a good cause with Queen Butterfly

To help raise funds for the Queen Butterfly Foundation, the Panorama Running Club and Team Active Training Group have partnered with the foundation to host a Fantastic 5km Fun Run.

When it comes to working with special-needs children, you will often hear the phrase ‘It is a calling, not a profession’. A person needs to be compassionate, caring, selfless and patient all the time.

A lot of people struggle to show these qualities all day every day, which is why it takes a specific type of passion to do this particular work well. One person who has an abundance of this specific passion is Palesa Mofokeng, founder of the Queen Butterfly Foundation.

The Queen Butterfly Foundation is a stimulation centre and non-profit organisation (NPO) that caters for children and young adults with profound physical and mental disabilities. As an NPO, they rely on kind-hearted community members and businesses to make donations in order for them to stay afloat.

With the financial downfalls of the coronavirus pandemic, the foundation has really been struggling, and their dedicated employees have been surviving on little to no salary for the past few months. To help raise funds for the foundation, the Panorama Running Club and Team Active Training Group have partnered with the foundation to host a Fantastic 5km Fun Run.

For a very small entry fee of R50, all of which will go to the foundation, community members are invited to tag along for the Fun Run/ Walk. To book your entry in advance, transfer the donation (or more) to the Panorama Running Club bank account with the reference ‘Butterfly’ and the club will give all of the money to the foundation. You can either participate in the event in person, or virtually. The run will be held from 7am to 8am at the Wilro Park Baptist Church on Umfolozi Road in Wilro Park on 16 December. Add to the fun by coming dressed as a butterfly and showing your support for the fantastic cause.
