Councillors still waiting for answers from Pikitup

“This information was due to be received before the festive season, but we have still not received the write-up and the confusion within the community causes much concern,” Amelia told the Northsider.

The current state of and operational confusions surrounding the Old Panorama Compost Site have been a cause for concern since last year.
Ward 89 councillor Amelia Bester recently alluded to the fact that no improvements have been made this year to put residents at ease with regard to the deteriorating plant.

“At the last site meeting held last year, it was agreed that Pikitup would provide us with a write-up of all services it provides; operating hours at sites; and of items accepted at these Pikitup sites,” she said.

“This information was due to be received before the festive season, but we have still not received the write-up and the confusion within the community causes much concern,” Amelia told the Northsider.

“It was also agreed that signs would be erected at the Old Compost Site and at the Recycling Hub, indicating that first-mentioned is closed, and the operating times and services at last-mentioned. This has not been done either.

“We also requested sight of the mitigation plan drafted for these sites to prevent compost burning again, and to maintain greater security. It was agreed that the trees around the site which shelter displaced people would be removed, but none of that has been done,” Amelia listed.

“The information and follow-up have become urgent and same has been communicated to the entity,” she said.

Pikitup has been approached for comment concerning these issues; however, the response has not been forthcoming.
