MMC confronts Garden Waste Site challenges

He emphasised that residents should bring in their waste material before 4pm to avoid being turned away.

MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services (EISD), Councillor Mpho Moerane has assured residents that plans are afoot to deal with management issues and filth at the Panorama Garden Waste Site.

Moerane braved the inclement weather conditions on Tuesday, 26 January, to confront the challenges at the garden waste site as well as the neighbouring compost sites.
“I visited the garden waste site to determine the concerns of the residents and local councillors, and I noted that the place is filthy; but we are putting plans in place to make sure that the site is cleaned, and that the trucks leave on time,” he explained some of the recommended measures.

He emphasised that residents should bring in their waste material before 4pm to avoid being turned away. “The reason for this is that the trucks cannot leave after 4pm because of the Marie-Louise Landfill Site closing at 4pm,” he explained.
