Over the past five days, water issues have been affecting most of the areas that are supplied by Rand Water.
A notice was sent out with a list of 37 areas that would be affected by a mass water shutdown on 27 and 28 February due to a valve replacement project the City’s bulk water supplier was conducting; but this project not only ran over schedule, it also affected several areas that were not on the initial list, leaving many people without water on Monday as well.
Rand Water announced later on Monday, 1 March that the project was unsuccessful and would need to be rescheduled, but they have not yet released a new date for the mass water shutdown. Water supply was restored on Monday but was said to have taken several hours (for some a full day) before the water was fully restored.
To add fuel to the fire, all of the areas that are supplied by Rand Water may be without water for the majority of today, 3 March due to a burst pipe at the Eikenhof Pump Station. The burst pipe is currently being repaired but Rand Water has been unable to provide an estimated time of restoration (ETR) as yet. An update will be published when this information is received.
