Former Ward 97 PR councillor Ralf Bittkau has come out to defend his colleague, Ward 97 councillor Leah Knott, over recent attacks on her about matters beyond her control.
The lack of public service or even courtesy to acknowledge complaints by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has resulted in her taking the blame.
Knott has been attacked, despite her efforts to resolve the pothole crisis in her ward.
Bittkau had this to say in her defence, “Please note that as councillors, we have been fighting with JRA regarding the pothole issue and the dysfunctional asphalt plant for the past six months. Unfortunately, you are now under an ANC administration and there is a limit to what we can achieve.
“However, we will keep fighting to try and get you the service delivery that you deserve, even if you think we are ‘oxygen thieves’,” he responded.
Bittkau also clarified the tasks of a councillor. “Sorry that I have to point this out, but a councillor by law is not allowed to instruct entities of the City, but escalates issues, which Knott has done,” he corrected.
