Man dies in minibus taxi on his way to seeking medical attention

Taxi driver stops vehicle at the corner of Ondtekkers Road and Corlett Avenue to alert authorities

An inquest docket has been opened after the man was declared dead at the corner of Ontdekkers Road and Corlett Avenue on Monday morning, 22 March.

According to police reports, the man was travelling in a minibus taxi on his way to Johannesburg, seeking medical attention. He had recently phoned his family to tell them he was feeling ill, but unfortunately he became unconscious in the taxi.

The driver of the taxi then stopped his vehicle, where paramedics and authorities were called to the scene.

Roodepoort police spokesperson, Captain Juanita Yorke, confirmed what is known at this stage.

“A white male in his early 40’s collapsed in the taxi and emergency services responded. He was declared deceased on the scene. The family has been notified and we extend our condolences to them,” she said.

The cause of death is still unknown and investigations are currently underway.
