Rand Water employees to embark on strike tomorrow

"We remain committed to engaging with the Union to reach a resolution."

Rand Water has announced that it has received written notification from one of its employee-affiliated unions, the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) of its intention to embark with strike action from 8am tomorrow, 21 April.

The Union stated that Rand Water failed to consult with it before making a decision not to pay its employee’s performance incentive bonuses, and cited this as the reason for the strike action.

Rand Water has disputed these allegations.

Rand Water informed the public that it has adequate systems in place to ensure a sustained supply of bulk portable water to its customers.

“All our customers and stakeholders will be kept fully informed of any developments, as necessary on this matter,” Rand Water stated.

“Rand Water has sound relations with its employee-affiliated unions, based on the concept of good labour-management relations being fundamental to good corporate management. We remain committed to engaging with the Union to reach a resolution.” Rand Water concluded.
