In the early hours of this morning, June 11, a major water pipe burst was reported at the reservoir on Mimosa Street in Helderkruin. Water was seen shooting up from the ground, flooding nearby streets.
Many residents and businesses were in a frustrated panic, assuming that a pipe burst would mean that water supply to the area would be affected. Johannesburg Water sent out their electro-mechanical team to investigate, and were able to share some good news. The issue was not a burst pipe, but an overflow at the tower because of an electrical failure with the pumps that pump water into the Mimosa reservoir.
Watch here:
All the water that could be seen was overflow water, which means that water supply to the area should not be affected. The water pumps have been turned off to prevent more overflow, and Joburg Water is attending to the electrical issue.
Should any problems that could result in water supply issues be encountered while the electrical fault is being repaired, the Record will publish an update.
