No injuries but Davidsonville shack fire displaces several families
COJEMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi reported that the cause is believed to be a paraffin stove.
In times of crisis, a community’s strength is shown by the collective caring for those in need.
A fire has torn through multiple shacks on Manuel Street in the vicinity of Hebel Street on Sunday, June 20. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon around 2pm and thankfully no injuries have been reported. City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services were on scene and spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi reported that the cause of the fire is believed to be a paraffin stove.

Consequently, several families have been displaced and efforts are under way to ensure basic necessities are provided for them. Ward 71 councillor, René Benjamin, has appealed to the community to assist with any donations for the families which are currently being homed nearby. “A number of people have responded with donations as these people have lost everything,” said Councillor Benjamin.
Anybody able to assist with clothing, toiletries, food, blankets or anything else, is asked to contact Councillor Benjamin via her Facebook page. “We are also appealing to businesses for materials for these families to help rebuild their homes,” she encouraged.
