Cash-in-transit vehicle allegedly bombed in Monday night heist
Multiple vehicles caught fire and several guards were injured.

A cash-in-transit vehicle was robbed on the N1 just before the New Canada Road and Main Reef Road bridges, July 5. Several vehicles were set alight and four security guards were injured in the Monday evening incident.
Fortunately, the security guards only sustained minor injuries when their vehicles allegedly were bombed by an unknown number of robbers.
An off-duty paramedic who had just completed his shift passed by shortly after the attack, and alerted authorities and emergency services of the burning vehicles. “Four security guards were found on the scene with minor injuries. They were treated and later transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care,” confirmed ER24 Corporate Communications Manager, Werner Vermaak.
“At this stage it is not clear how the other vehicles caught alight. It is understood that they may have been part of the initial incident,” concluded Werner. Police, JMPD and other authorities attended the scene, and the incident is under investigation.
