Female security officer showing she is tough enough to mix it with the boys
Chelsea Adams follows the family route into the security forces.
Physical stature is simply an illusion betraying the immense scale of a towering spirt.
Women’s Month is all about celebrating the brilliance of the mothers, sisters and daughters of this beautiful land. Whether nurturing at home, guiding in the classrooms or dominating in the boardroom, female excellence permeates every facet of our society. Some, however, chose to don camouflage jackets and combat boots, fulfilling a desire to protect the greater community.
Chelsea Adams is a female crime fighter and private security operative working across Roodepoort. Educated at Arthur Matthews Primary School and then Hoërskool Die Burger, the 22-year-old pint-sized thrill-seeker now works for Help24Secure in various roles. “I love policing; it has always been my vision to end up with the K9 unit one day, but the security industry works hand in hand with the police,” said Chelsea.
Not easy to intimidate, Chelsea regularly throws herself into dangerous situations, confronting criminals head-on. Either on operations or patrols, the friendly yet fierce dynamo stands shoulder to shoulder with the rough and rugged. “Operations for me are both educational and exciting as I get to learn new things. I’m kind of an adrenaline junkie so it works out perfectly for me,” she stated.

Role models leave an indelible mark and serve as a mirror for one’s dreams, desires and ambitions. A mother’s influence can never be understated, and it comes as no surprise that Chelsea’s mom is also associated with the badge. “My mother has taught me quite a lot both on a professional and personal basis; she is quite exquisite,” said Chelsea of her mother, Florida Police reservist, Constable Wendy Adams.
When not spending time with friends and family, Chelsea can be found at the shooting range perfecting her aim. Her resilient and independent attitude is admirable in a society plagued by violence against women, and sets an example of confident female strength. “My vision for the women is to empower themselves, to realise their potential and for them to make a success of themselves. If they really are determined, it will not be difficult.”
Surrounding oneself with the exemplary is the key to growth, and Chelsea can act as a beacon for young women looking for a positive role model. Offering advice to young girls, Chelsea said, “Follow your dreams and reach your goals no matter how difficult or what obstacles you may face. Nothing is ever impossible, but you just have to work for it. Don’t ever allow anyone to disrupt you in your journey to success.”
