JMPD tackles illegal land occupations in Zandspruit

“JMPD conducts regular operations in Zandspruit whenever there are new structures to prevent the by-laws in terms of health and safety regulations being contravened."

A few illegal structures were destroyed in Zandspruit when the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) teams moved in to tackle potential land occupations on Friday, September 10.

A JMPD officer on scene said they received information that people had moved onto vacant land in Zandspruit next to Beyers Naudé Drive, and had already erected shacks.

According to some residents who were angry and demanded a court eviction order from the JMPD officers, they had been on the land for four years and that the matter was referred to the courts.

JMPD spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar confirmed that illegal structures were reported and JMPD officers subsequently were dispatched to Zandspruit.
