Pedestrian killed near Zandspruit

One person, suspected to be a minor, was hit when they turned back in the direction of the swerving vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A male pedestrian died after being struck by a bakkie. The driver swerved in an attempt to avoid people crossing Beyers Naude Drive and Pierre Road near Zandspruit on Monday, October 25.

An eyewitness revealed to the Northsider that the incident happened at around 13:00. A white Ford Ranger was travelling on Beyers Naude Drive towards Krugersdorp when people tried to cross the road.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Wayne Minnaar confirmed that an accident occurred near Zandspruit where a Ford Ranger bumped into a male pedestrian.

“A charge of culpable homicide will be investigated against the driver of the Ford Ranger,” said Minnaar.
