Poorte announces new experienced coach for 2022

Kalify proved himself at Pirates Rugby Club, Varsity College and recently at Wanderers Rugby Club as one of the best in the country.

The Roodepoort Rugby Club held their annual general meeting (AGM) and Family Fun Day Closing on Saturday, November 6 at Scorpion Park at Hoërskool Die Burger.

Poorte announced their new brooms to clean the club next year and the biggest catch was the new head coach Neil Kalify who has earned a good reputation in club rugby.

Kalify proved himself at Pirates Rugby Club, Varsity College and recently at Wanderers Rugby Club as one of the best in the country.

Theuns Naudé was elected as the new chairman and Denis Armstrong was elected honourable president, while Matthys Booysen occupies the president’s seat.

Naudé previously headed the referees department of the Golden Lions Rugby Union.

Booysen revealed to the Northsider that Poorte will return to their traditions and next season the first team will play in the black-and-white striped jerseys again.

“Having a new chairman who takes over from me is great for the club. It shows that there is someone who understands the system and how things work.

“We are looking forward to the next season, and to get the guys up and running for the new 2022 season we are going to start with pre-season training on Tuesday, November 16,” said Booysen.

On Tuesday, November 2 the club shared exciting news for their fans who can now purchase their kit or promo gear at the club’s new online shop at https://worldofrugby.co.za/shop/fan-gear.
