Mrs Joburg contestants help to build a power tower

Finalists in Mrs Joburg collected and distributed donated food to help local charities

Contestants for the Mrs Johannesburg beauty pageant stepped out on November 13 to do some good at Forest Hill Mall.

Finalist, Evangeline Solomons from Ruimsig explained that the power tower food drive was started during the pandemic to assist families. “It became quite successful after the first one in 2020 and it has become a yearly drive that has expanded nationwide. It is nine teams in nine provinces in one day. The pageant ladies go out and we all have projects collecting non-perishables. These go to their charity foundations.”

Evangeline said they collaborated with finalists from Mrs Gauteng, Mrs Johannesburg and Mrs Pretoria for the initiative. The donated food went to Imfundo educare, Tamakhulu, Asanté-Neo-Life, and Starfish Place of Safety. “Despite what the country faces, I have never seen humanitarian efforts quite like this,” she added.
