A wide umbrella cast by community policing forum keeps residents safe and informed

FNQB a tight network of well informed residents falling under the Florida police banner

The residents of Florida, Northcliff, Quellerina and Bergbron (FNQB) have been taking a proactive involvement in their surroundings for over two decades.

What originally started as a ratepayers association formed in the late nineties, FNQB Community Policing evolved into a neighbourhood watchdog sub-forum under the Florida Community Policing Fforum.

Bruno Ragghianti has chaired the group of concerned citizens since 2008 but has been a resident of the area since 1979. Inspired to get involved after seeing two prized German Shepherds murdered by poisoning, Bruno has a long CV of service. Ten years under the old Randburg Civil Defence, five years as a traffic reservist combined with military service in the Air Force make Bruno a tough nut to crack.

FNQB may not have reflective jacketed patrollers but each member is efficient at relaying accurate, vital information regarding the happenings in their area. Their primary aims are to provide residents with a safe and secure environment, displace crime and network with the community to remove or alleviate any undesirable activities or elements.

Not one to mince his words, Bruno has a strong message for those with their hands on the levers of power:
“As is commonly well known our police services, aside from the small pockets of excellent hard-working members, continue to diminish making our police services ineffective and unreliable. Our police leadership, specifically at ministerial level, lacks the political will to eradicate crime, and fails dismally in serving the law-abiding citizens of this country.

“Our advice to our serving politicians is to take careful note of the latest municipal voting which has delivered to them a very strong message of dissatisfaction in that law-abiding citizens will not accept their gradual desensitising of the population into accepting high levels of crime, their never-ending failures and a lack of respect and recognition for the rights of citizens and their property.”
