Crawford welcomes new learners at registration day

There was excitement and enthusiasm as registrations opened for Grades 4 to 12

Eager new learners were abound at Crawford Academy in Ruimsig on January 11 during the school’s registration day. Registrations were open for Grades 4 to 12, and it also provided an opportunity for the new learners to familiarise themselves with the school.

Thando Mashinini, admissions officer at Crawford said, “New learners can also get a feel of the school grounds and their classrooms. We are going through registration for new learners ahead of the new academic year that starts tomorrow. We have our arts department on display, and this includes drama and music. Learners can also sign up for any of the sports offered at the school.”

Lana Volkwyn said she was looking forward to teaching a lot of clever kids in the new year. “I am looking forward to the enthusiasm and having lots of fun with future change-makers.” Caryn Bakewell, who works in the mathematics department echoed, “I am looking forward to all the creativity”.

While the school grounds were buzzing with chaotic enthusiasm, many of the returning learners were not only eager for the upcoming year but were visibly glad to see each other again.

“I am looking forward to being in a physical classroom and not online,” Kathy Strehler said of her Grades 8 to 12 classes. Math teacher for the Grades 9 to 11 learners, Nicolene Nel added, “I am looking forward to seeing the kids again. Seeing them today has been amazing and this is why I am here. This is why I am still doing it.”

Tlotliso Phajane and Unathi Ndzume who are both in Grade 12 this year shared their hopes for their final year in high school. “We are looking forward to getting seven distinctions and just enjoying the last year in high school.”
