Saving lives one pint of blood at a time

Little Ashford Florida Hills hosted their second blood drive at the school.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) currently has less than three days’ supply of certain blood types, while an increase in demand looms.

As South Africa has seen a gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, there has been a rise in the demand for blood. However, collection has dropped which has left stock levels critically low since October last year.

That’s why Little Ashford Florida Hills hosted their second blood drive at the school on Thursday, January 27.

According to principal Chanelle de Kock they have committed to assisting the SANBS to collect safe, sufficient blood to meet the increasing demands of patients throughout South Africa.

“Since there is a shortage of safe blood in the country, we try to help where we can. We invited all staff members, parents and community members to come and support the cause,” she said.

They’ve had a great response from everyone who was invited, including staff from Kruger & Pottinger Attorneys up the road.

“We would like to say thank you to each and every person in our community who not only came to donate blood but also their precious time and other resources,” Chanelle said.

Little Ashford Florida Hills will be hosting another blood drive in two months’ time, and invites everyone to be part of the very worthy cause. If you would like to find out more on this initiative, feel free to contact the school on 011 672 1158.
