Crawford learners shine at school’s Science Expo
Grade 7 learners Bontle Maoke, Itumeleng Mokgalabane and Bohlale Hoene were announced as the winners of the Crawford International Ruimsig Science Exhibition for 2022.
On Friday, March 4 Crawford International Ruimsig held their Grade 7 Science Expo where learners were given the opportunity to show others their projects about their own scientific investigations.
The exhibition was inaugurated by teachers Caryn Bakewell and Muhammad Rassool and saw learners displaying many self-designed working scientific models and projects.

Learners made still models, working models, colourful charts with different hues and posters to name just a few.
The young scientists were required to give a detailed explanation of their projects as part of their presentation to the judges.
Projects based on irrigation and rainwater harvesting were the centre of attention while exhibits on human anatomy and advancements in technology were presented with the help of augmented reality.
Grade 7 learners Bontle Maoke, Itumeleng Mokgalabane and Bohlale Hoene were announced as the winners of the Crawford International Ruimsig Science Exhibition for 2022.
“These learners recognised that, in rural areas, access to clean water and food are both areas of concern.
“In light of this, they designed and conducted an investigation to determine whether grey water could be used effectively to grow vegetables,” said Bakewell.
Grey water is the recycling of ‘waste’ water that is generated in homes and commercial buildings through doing laundry, wash dishes or bathing.
Grey water differs from black water which is waste water from toilets, and designated for sewerage systems.
Grey water can be used for a variety of purposes such as irrigation or toilet-flushing.
