Charity starts at home and continues in school

According to the school, they have been part of the JMC for over 20 years and will continue supporting their great initiatives.

On Wednesday, April 6 Charterhouse Schools thanked all the Charterhouse families for supporting the Johannesburg Mini Council (JMC) Annual Easter egg drive.

The school collected 10 099 Easter eggs before learners Danika Poole and Jorja Magnus delivered them to the JMC to be distributed to various charities.

Charterhouse Schools started their annual JMC Easter egg drive towards the end of February and collected an impressive number of eggs.

According to the school, they have been part of the JMC for over 20 years and will continue supporting their great initiatives.

Danika, a proud and inspirational Johannesburg Mini Councillor shared her experience engaging with the charities that receive the Easter eggs with the Northsider.

“I spoke to a charity that found an abandoned building and turned it into an orphanage. Some of the children from these charities have not seen an Easter egg before; they don’t know what it looks like or tastes like. Handing over the eggs my school collected gave me a sense of fulfilment,” said Danika.

Jorja, a true leader and carer as a Johannesburg Mini Councillor expresses the pure joy and valuable lessons learned from being part of this great initiative.

“Knowing that I have the ability to make a difference in a child’s life gives me a purpose. This one Easter egg drive brought many moments of joy to a child’s life and that is the difference I want to continue making. This initiative not only made me aware about underprivileged children in our country, but also the effort and skills needed to run a project like this to achieve the goals that were set.”

The Johannesburg Mini-Council has been effecting change in the lives of our youth for over four decades. With a specific focus on Grade 7 learners, the leadership lessons that they learn are invaluable to their future development.
