Residents asked to be vigilant after series of security beam thefts
Five homes in Witpoortjie robbed of security beams in less than a week
Five homes in nearby streets have recently fallen prey to a suspiciously similar crime.
Roodepoort Police are requesting information from anyone who may have any insight into a series of security beam thefts. Houses on Amersfoort Street, Gulden Street, Heerengracht Street, Hendrik Boom Street and Leerdam Street have all reported the theft of their security beam sensors within the last week.

Following the same pattern, the residents report how they were contacted by their security company to check on an alarm activation, only to find later that several of the beam sensors were missing and the perimeter fencing damaged. In two of the incidents, residents reported how they saw a man fleeing the property, with one of those residents witnessing men drive away in a white vehicle.
The times of the intrusions vary but all were after dark, with three of the five incidents coming in the early hour of the morning when the occupants were asleep.
“We are looking for any information that could assist the investigations. We encourage residents to be extra vigilant, check their beams and ensure they are linked to a security system,” said Roodepoort Police spokesperson, Captain Juanita Yorke.
The incidents may be isolated to the section of Witpoortjie south of Koeberg Street but residents in neighbouring areas are asked to be cautious. Captain Yorke confirmed that extra patrols would be done in the area over the coming days but should anyone have any information on the incidents, they are asked to contact Roodepoort Police as soon as possible.
