Fundraising Golf Day for Lukas

His medical condition has still not been fully diagnosed and further tests are being done.

No parent wants to see their child sick or in pain, and when exorbitant medical costs are added to the mix, the situation can be extremely distressing.

Lukas Etsebeth was a healthy baby at birth; however, at four months his various medical conditions started, involving a brain bleed, increased intracranial pressure, treatment for seizures with Epilim (which made him drowsy and unresponsive), pneumonia, multiple admissions for chest complications, MRI scans, CAT scans, EEGs, EKG, lumbar puncture, VP shunt insertion, gastroscopy, panendoscopy, laryngomalacia and Botox.

According to some of the best paediatricians, neurologists and specialists, Lukas’ condition is a perplexing case to diagnose. His blood samples were sent to the UK and the Netherlands to test for congenital disorders of glycosylation, but the results came back normal. The latest MRI showed that the tumour on his vertebrae didn’t pose any danger. However, it was found that his small brain had never developed. The CAT scan of his vertebrae indicated scoliosis, and there was a suggestion of a Dandy-Walker variant.

Young Lukas has also been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and sensory processing disorder – he is unable to crawl, walk or talk.

Lukas often chokes, has difficulty during feeding and can’t feed himself. His gross motor development is delayed and not as it should be at the age of seven. He needs physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy on a regular basis, and he’ll also need to go for regular MRI and CAT scans.

Lukas has had Botox four times, but it was unsuccessful, and he had plantar fascia release surgery to release the muscles in his foot. His medical condition has still not been fully diagnosed and further tests are being done.

To help raise funds for Lukas’ high medical costs, a golf day will be held for him on November 3 at Eagle Canyon Golf Course.
