JMPD warns against fake metro police job offers

"JMPD jobs are not for sale and we want to emphasise that no one is required to pay any sum of money for JMPD jobs."

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has warned the community to beware of fake advertisements and job offers that are currently doing the rounds on social media and internet sites.

Through a media statement released on Saturday, September 17, JMPD confirmed that it distanced itself from such fake advertisements.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, there are currently no vacancies for Metro Police officers in the City of Johannesburg (CoJ).

Fihla said that legitimate adverts will be placed in daily newspapers and on CoJ’s website only, not on social media platforms and dubious internet sites.

“In the past criminals have taken advantage of and robbed young people of money for fake JMPD jobs. Some of the scammers were arrested for selling these fake jobs.

“JMPD jobs are not for sale and we want to emphasise that no one is required to pay any sum of money for JMPD jobs.

“Once successful candidates have met all the requirements and are accepted for training at the JMPD Academy, they will receive a monthly stipend.

“Selling fake jobs is illegal and anyone who is caught doing so will face the full might of the law and will be criminally charged.

“We encourage members of the public to report scammers to the police and any other law-enforcement agency,” said Fihla.
