N1 South to Maraisburg Road closed due to diesel spillage
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as the clean-up on the highway is expected to take hours.
All lanes on the N1 South before the Maraisburg Road off ramp are closed due to a truck crash and diesel spillage earlier today, May 12.
This information was confirmed to the Roodepoort Record by JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
According to Fihla, the road was closed to allow emergency services and law enforcement to clean the scene and remove the overturned vehicle.
Fihla adds that three slight injuries were reported.
“Initially, only three lanes were closed, but now all lanes are closed and all vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas. The estimated time for the scene to be cleared and the highway to be reopened is about four hours,” he said.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as 14th Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter Road.
They are also urged to exercise patience and caution while travelling on alternative routes, as they are likely to experience increased traffic volume.
