Ward 85 councillor provides feedback on outstanding pothole repairs

"Hopefully we will see more work being done in this regard in the coming days, weeks and months to help uplift our beautiful ward.”

Frustrated motorists who use the roads in Ward 85 have called on authorities numerous times to address damaged sections of the roads as they have become very dangerous to drive on.

Motorists also claim that busy thoroughfares in the area are riddled with potholes and other road-related issues that remain unresolved.

Ward 85 councillor Zonè Hughes has given feedback with regards to the escalation of long-outstanding problems with potholes in her ward.

She told the Record that after sending a letter to Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) on September 20 regarding all those issues, JRA has started attending to some of them.

“I will do an inspection in the next few days to see what has been done and what has not been attended to, so that I can inquire with JRA.

“Hopefully we will see more work being done in this regard in the coming days, weeks and months to help uplift our beautiful ward,” said Hughes.

JRA repaired numerous potholes at the top of Barnard Street coming out of Snipe Street. Potholes on Bergkloof Road in Little Falls were also repaired while a massive hole on Waterval Road and Poortjie Street was also attended to.

“I am confident that some of the issues will be resolved, but not all of them. I will continue to follow up with JRA with regards to when they will be done, and if not to give reasons,” explained Hughes.

Residents can report potholes and other road-related issues to JRA by contacting hotline@jra.org.za, Joburgconnect@joburg.org.za or 0860 562 874 and choose option 5.

Once reported but not done within the prescribed service-level agreement, residents can send the reference number to the Ward 85 councillor so that she can escalate it to JRA.
