Huge pothole a cause for concern
'My driveway paving is being damaged by drivers swerving as they try to avoid the pothole, in the process driving on a section of my paving.'
Since December last year, local resident Portia Nkoana has had to put up with an expanding pothole in front of her driveway on Koeberg Street.
Currently the loose gravel from the pothole stretches from curb to curb and easily exceeds three metres in length in places.
“I just find it strange that a section of the road – a few metres from the pothole – was resurfaced in June or July, but the pothole was never tended to. My driveway paving is being damaged by drivers swerving as they try to avoid the pothole, in the process driving on a section of my paving,” Portia said.
The loose chippings also cause frequent slow punctures, as there’s no other way for Portia to enter her premises but to drive through the pothole.
“I am paying my rates and taxes, and it’s the municipality’s responsibility to ensure we get the services we pay for. I have reported the issue multiple times and I was told that it would take 14 working days for someone to come and have a look. We’ve exceeded that period of time and no one has come out yet,” she said.
Ward 71 councillor René Benjamin said she was aware of the issue and had escalated the matter. JRA was also contacted for comment on the issue.
