Family lives in the dark as cable thieves strike in Maraisburg
Cable theft leaves family in the dark for more than a week.
Annetjie Jacobs and her family in Maraisburg have been plunged into darkness for a week, as cable theft has left them without electricity and they are struggling to cope with the daily challenges of life without power.
Speaking to the Roodepoort Record, Jacobs mentioned that this theft happened in the early hours of July 4. The cable was cut from the roof, resulting in power loss for the family for the past eight days.
Jacobs also slammed City Power, stating that their response was ‘poor’ after numerous failed attempts to log complaints.
“We have been losing our network, and it is difficult for me to prepare my grandson for school in the morning. City Power Services is slow, and when you call their centre, you have to wait at least 15 minutes before you can speak to an agent.
“I always see City Power trucks around the area, and when I ask for assistance, we are ignored.”
The Record approached City Power to escalate this matter and requested comment, and as soon as it is received, an update will be published.
