Annual river clean-up a massive success
Residents of Weltevreden Park pulled together to support the RWRA annual river clean-up on September 8.
The RiverWel Residents Association (RWRA) held their annual river clean-up on September 8.
Residents came out in numbers, and supported by the RWRA committee members and their dedicated work team, made short work of picking up trash and clearing the flow of the river in light of the upcoming rainy season.
According to RWRA chairperson Wayne Davies, the turnout was good and the work was made easier by the ongoing efforts of the team that has been working in the area in the weeks leading up to the clean-up.

“These efforts are the culmination of our year-round effort, aimed mostly at clearing debris from the path of the river so that we try to avoid problems with flooding when the rain arrives.

“We are very happy that residents seem to be noting the work that the RA does within our neighbourhoods. The good turnout of residents was a testament to that fact.”

Davies thanked every person and organisation that contributed, from the residents themselves to the companies that sponsored water and hotdogs on the day.

“It was also good to see our ward councillor in attendance on the day. Also a big thank you to Pikitup, who came around promptly on Monday morning and collected all the bags of rubbish we cleared from the river.”
