Pikitup: No gifts for employees this Christmas

Residents are thanked for their co-operation and understanding in ensuring a safe and respectful festive season.

Johannesburg’s official waste management service provider, Pikitup, has issued a request to residents, urging them to refrain from giving Christmas gifts to its employees this festive season.

According to Pikitup’s spokesperson and communication manager Muzi Mkhwanazi, this appeal aligns with the company’s policy, which strictly prohibits employees from soliciting or accepting gifts from the public.

“The policy is in place to protect both residents and Pikitup’s reputation, especially after past incidents where individuals impersonated our employees to commit fraudulent acts,” explained Mkhwanazi. He noted that such impersonations have led to scams and compromised community safety.

Mkhwanazi also addressed complaints from residents alleging that some employees had engaged in intimidating behaviour to coerce gifts during the festive period.

“These actions are unacceptable and do not reflect Pikitup’s values or standards of service,” he emphasised.

To maintain community trust, Mkhwanazi encouraged residents to report any incidents of intimidation, harassment, or suspicious behaviour to Pikitup’s call centres on 010 055 5990 or 087 357 1068.

Residents who will be generating excess waste are urged to make use of Pikitup’s integrated waste facilities during the holiday season to handle the additional waste typically generated.

Information about these facilities, including the types and quantities of waste they accept, can be found on their website at www.pikitup.co.za.
