Rand Water announces water shutdown

Residents should brace for full night of dry taps.

Rand Water has issued a statement notifying residents about a planned water shutdown due to a meter replacement operation that will affect water supply in the area. The maintenance is scheduled to take place between 18:00 on July 28 and 06:00 on July 29.

The maintenance will be 12 hours long and will affect the Honeydew and Corrimore reservoirs, resulting in residents having no water for the duration of the shutdown. Cornelius, Weltevreden HP, and Weltevreden are some of the mentioned areas to be affected. Residents are advised to prepare for the shutdown in advance by storing enough water to meet their needs during the time water will be off.

Tips for residents during the water shutdown:

• Store sufficient water before shutdown by filling up empty buckets and bottles with water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene needs
• Close taps during the shutdown to prevent flooding when the water supply is restored
• Contact Rand Water’s customer care line (0860 10 10 60) or your local municipality for updates and emergency support.
