PRA engages stakeholders over infrastructure repairs in the area

The residents now await the delivery of the promised repairs.

The Panorama Residents Association (PRA) recently had a meeting with the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and the City of Johannesburg’s (CoJ) Ward 89 Urban Inspector to discuss three key issues that are currently affecting their community.

The meeting comes a day after the Panorama@Work team conducted a clean-up of a blocked stormwater servitude in the area.

According to Michael Steyn, the PRA’s deputy chairperson, the meeting was constructive and engaging, and the first issue on the list they discussed was the blocked bridge on 9th Avenue.

“We raised the urgent concern regarding the blockage at the 9th Avenue bridge, which must be resolved before the rainy season begins.”

He also added that the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) acknowledged the issue and committed to removing the sand that the PRA had already cleared from the water channel.

The second issue on the list to be discussed was the damaged road surface on 9th Avenue, which was caused by a collapsed sewer pipe. Fortunately, Johannesburg Water had already fixed the problem by diverting the sewage to an alternative line. Now, the PRA is waiting for the JRA to repair the damaged road surface.

Lastly, the PRA spoke about the formation of a sinkhole, which is a potential safety hazard for residents, on the pavement at the corner of Haak en Steek Street and JG Strydom Road. According to Michael, the JRA acknowledged the issue and is expected to investigate and address it accordingly.

After the meeting, Steyn reflected on the engagement, saying, “Overall, it was a productive meeting, and we appreciate the cooperation of the JRA and CoJ. We remain committed to collaborating with city entities to ensure effective solutions and continued improvement within our community.”

The PRA takes on community-led projects like clean-ups and other initiatives that help to better the area they live in.
